Job description
As a TFU Authorised Firearms Officer Counter Terrorism, you'll provide specialist firearms capability across the AWE footprint. This demanding role combines advanced tactical operations with the highest levels of security responsibility.
Key responsibilities in this role include
Dynamic and Deliberate Search Operations
Prevent unauthorised access to nuclear materials using nationally accredited training.
Multi-Platform Weapons Proficiency
Maintain qualification across all weapon systems used.
Radiological Environment Operations
Work in radioactive environments using full Radiological Protection Equipment.
Tactical Response
Execute dynamic entry, hostage rescue, and complex security scenarios.
Operational Excellence
Make critical decisions under extreme pressure in scenarios of national importance.

Terms
Applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and achieve 10.5 Multistage fitness test prior to employment.
Eligibility
Serving police officers and police officers who have recently left policing (within 36 months) in a UK Civilian Police Force are invited to apply.
Officers must have completed a minimum of 2 years’ service, been signed off on probation and have completed their initial qualification entry route i.e. PCEP/PCDA/PDHEP etc. You will be required to evidence this if service is less than 4 years.
Applicants should be able to evidence a credible and relevant policing record.
Applicants must be a sole British National and British Passport holder and willing to undergo security vetting clearance to Developed Vetting (DV) level. Applicants will also be subject to Police Vetting checks.
Applicants must hold a UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 live penalty points.

Information Session
The Tactical Firearms Unit will be hosting an online Information Session at 6pm - 7pm on Tuesday 14 October 2025 for those interested in applying for this process.
If you would like to attend, please register your interest using the form below by 11:45pm on Sunday 12 October.
An email with a link to the session will then be sent to you by no later than 10am on 14 October.

Assessment Day & Interview
An assessment day for those who pass the sift will be held at a location and date to be confirmed. This will include a suitability interview and fit test.
Medicals for successful candidates will take place at locations and dates to be confirmed. Successful candidates will be expected to take up appointment on the first available course once ready to be employed/as soon as practical.
