Miles For Mabel

Mabel is a happy, smiley toddler who loves trips to the park and spending time with her big brother. She's also shown incredible strength this year, after being diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of childhood eye cancer, at just seven months old.

Mabel's grandad, PC Turner, one of our recruit trainers from Learning & Development, has been by her side every step of the way.

Determined to raise awareness among parents and grandparents about the early warning signs of this rare condition, he's shared his family's journey through the diagnosis, in the hope that others might recognise the signs sooner and seek help early.

Alongside spreading this vital message, PC Turner is organising several fundraisers in support of Barts Charity, which works in partnership with Barts Health NHS Trust and local research institutes to support care excellence and fund world-leading medical research.

Race Day

When Mabel was diagnosed earlier this year, PC Turner was determined to give something back to the NHS staff who had supported his family. He signed up for the Great South Run, a cause close to his heart and an outlet that helped him through a difficult time.

In true MDP fashion, he didn't run alone. Touched by his story, Inspector Harris, PS Green and PC Regan rallied around him and joined the fundraising effort - a gesture that speaks volumes about the spirit of our community.

On Sunday 18th October, the team completed the 10 mile race, with sore feet, a few missing toenails, and a smiling Mabel waiting for them at the finish line. Congratulations team!

Our New Recruits Get In On the Fundraising Action

During their Recruit Training Programmes, new students select a charity to fundraise for during their 12-week course. Our latest cohort has chosen to support Barts too, joining PC Turner in his mission to raise £5,000 for the charity.

Their fundraising plans include a 5k, a cold water plunge in the sea, and a kickboxing class led by one of the students. We're looking forward to hearing how they get on - good luck to all involved!
