Military resettlement

Supporting Armed Forces Communities

The Ministry of Defence Police (MDP) proudly provides meaningful second careers to veterans from His Majesty's Forces. Our commitment to supporting armed forces communities has earned Silver Standard recognition under the Armed Forces Covenant. We actively collaborate with military resettlement organisations to connect former service personnel and their families with policing opportunities.

Veterans bring invaluable transferable skills that align perfectly with policing requirements; discipline, resilience, physical fitness, and determination to persevere through challenges. These attributes strengthen our policing culture and mean that veterans joining our ranks are often well-prepared for the demands of protecting our communities and Defence assets.

Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant represents a promise that those who serve or have served—and their families—receive fair treatment. Our Silver standard recognition formally acknowledges the strong relationships between our Force and the military, creating opportunities for further mutual benefit.

Support Networks

Our Force offers comprehensive support for those transitioning from military service. Beyond our established reservist network and regular presence at military resettlement events, we maintain several staff support networks open to all members. The camaraderie within MDP provides a comfortable transition from military life, while our specialised networks, including LGBT+, Race Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage (REACH), Gender Network, and Disability and Wellbeing Network (DAWN), provide additional support structures for everyone joining our Force.

Reservists and Volunteering

The Ministry of Defence encourages staff involvement in volunteering activities, recognising that diverse experiences build valuable skills and confidence. Some roles develop business capabilities like time management and presentation skills, while others enhance personal attributes such as emotional intelligence and innovative thinking.

We believe that broadening your experiences through varied work and volunteer environments fosters the growth mindset we value in all employees. If you wish to continue reservist service or other volunteering alongside your MDP career, please discuss this with our recruitment team during your application process.
