Key responsibilities

  • Provide armed protection for the safe transportation of sensitive Defence assets across the UK

  • Conduct close escort and traffic management for convoy movements

  • Maintain competence in vehicle escort tactics and convoy operations alongside AFO-CT duties

  • Liaise with local police forces and partner agencies in multi-agency environments

  • Complete and maintain driver classification training and Police Response Driver qualifications

  • Execute precision security operations critical to national Defence

  • Adapt flexibly to operational requirements, including extended deployments away from home

Training & Qualifications  

Candidates must be qualified (or be willing to become qualified) and undertake training in the following capabilities:

  • Authorised Firearms Officer - Counter Terrorism

  • Police Response Driver

  • C, C1 & D1 Driving Licence Entitlements

In addition, to the baseline mandatory qualifications, officers may be put forward for the following courses in the future based on suitability:

  • Police Advance Driver

  • Firearms Tactical Advisor

  • Operational Firearms Commander

  • National Firearms Instructor

  • PPST Instructor

You will be asked to confirm existing skill set once you have applied and been confirmed to have met the baseline eligibility requirements.

Assessments & Interviews

Those who pass the sift will be invited to an assessment day which will include an MDP force suitability interview and fitness test.

Officers who are successful at the assessment day will then be invited to attend an SEG specific suitability interview remotely via Teams.

Medicals for successful candidates will take place at locations and dates to be confirmed.
