The Special Escort Group is one of the UK's advanced armed policing units, responsible for protecting Britain's most sensitive Defence materials as they are transported across the nation. As an SEG officer, you'll conduct vital security operations nationwide, working with cutting-edge tactical equipment alongside a highly skilled, close-knit team. Key responsibilities
Provide armed protection for the safe transportation of sensitive Defence assets across the UK
Conduct close escort and traffic management for convoy movements
Maintain competence in vehicle escort tactics and convoy operations alongside AFO-CT duties
Liaise with local police forces and partner agencies in multi-agency environments
Complete and maintain driver classification training and Police Response Driver qualifications
Execute precision security operations critical to national Defence
Adapt flexibly to operational requirements, including extended deployments away from home

Eligibility
Serving police officers and police officers who have recently left policing (within 36 months) are invited to apply.
Applicants should be able to evidence a credible and relevant policing record.
Applicants must be a sole British National and British Passport holder and willing to undergo security vetting clearance to Security Clearance (DV) level with enhanced security checks. Applicants will also be subject to Police Vetting checks.
Applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and the Job-Related Fitness Standard (Physical Employment Standard) prior to employment.
Applicants must hold a UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 live penalty points.

Training & Qualifications
Candidates must be qualified (or be willing to become qualified) and undertake training in the following capabilities:
Authorised Firearms Officer - Counter Terrorism
Police Response Driver
C, C1 & D1 Driving Licence Entitlements
In addition, to the baseline mandatory qualifications, officers may be put forward for the following courses in the future based on suitability:
Police Advance Driver
Firearms Tactical Advisor
Operational Firearms Commander
National Firearms Instructor
PPST Instructor
You will be asked to confirm existing skill set once you have applied and been confirmed to have met the baseline eligibility requirements.
Information Session
Senior Officers from our Special Escort Group will be hosting an online Information Session at 6pm - 7pm on Thursday 22 January 2026 for those interested in applying for this process.

Assessment Day & Interview
An assessment day for those who pass the sift will be held at MDP HQ, RAF Wyton, Cambridgeshire on dates to be confirmed. This will include an MDP Force Suitability Interview and fitness test.
Officers who are successful at the assessment day will then be invited to attend an SEG specific suitability interview remotely via TEAMS.
Medicals for successful candidates will take place at locations and dates to be confirmed.
Appointment
Successful candidates will be expected to take up appointment on the first available course once ready to be employed.
