Join the Ministry of Defence Police Driver Training Units and instruct our officers to the high standards required.
As a PDI with the MDP, you will deliver specialist driver training that keeps officers safe, legally compliant, and operationally effective across a diverse range of vehicles and environments. MDP operates across a wide variety of locations and terrains in support of Defence, meaning your training will cover everything from general patrol vehicles to specialist and armoured platforms.
You will deliver College of Policing national curricula driving courses, including advanced and response driving, road safety, vehicle familiarisation, and tutoring courses, all incorporating relevant traffic legislation and MOD Transport Regulations.
When not delivering courses, you will contribute to quality management activities, stakeholder engagement, and the development of innovative training solutions that support the wider Learning and Development function across the MDP.

Key responsibilities
Deliver efficient and effective driver training applying Roadcraft: The Police Driver's Handbook and Highway Code principles
Monitor and develop driving skills and safety awareness of students, assessing competence against relevant performance criteria
Instruct learners on College of Policing driving courses, including relevant traffic legislation
Prepare progress reports, complete assessment records, and issue driver authorisations in line with Force standards
Carry out re-testing and assessment of officers whose driving authorisation has been withdrawn
Provide expert knowledge and advice on driving in relation to operational policing and vehicle collisions
Maintain your own driving and instructional skills through continuous professional development
Contribute to the continuous improvement of driver training across the Force

Training & Qualifications
Candidates must be qualified PDI or PDT and hold the following:
Police Advanced Driver qualification
Police Sector Standard for Instructor or Trainer (or equivalent)
Police Driving Instructor qualification in accordance with College of Policing standards
Police Sector Standard Assessor qualification
