Join the Ministry of Defence Police as a National Firearms Instructor and play an essential role in developing the tactical skills and professionalism of armed officers defending Defence.
As a National Firearms Instructor (NFI), you'll deliver the College of Policing National Police Firearms Training Curriculum, preparing recruits for their Authorised Firearms Officers Counter Terrorism (AFO CT) qualification and providing ongoing tactical refresher training to serving officers. You'll play a central part in maintaining the high standards of armed policing expected across the Force.

Key responsibilities
Deliver initial and refresher firearms training in line with national curricula and standards
Prepare recruits for AFO CT qualification through structured, evidence-based instruction
Provide tactical refresher training and continuing professional development to serving officers
Assess student performance and maintain accurate training records
Provide expert advice on tactics, firearms handling, and operational best practice
Maintain your own professional development, including an annual peer assessment booklet
Contribute to the continuous improvement of firearms training delivery

Training & Qualifications
Candidates must be qualified in the following capabilities:
You must have completed a National Firearms Instructor Course (AFO or ARV) and maintained an annual peer assessment booklet as a regular officer within a UK Home Department Police Force or other UK Civilian policing organisation (i.e. BTP/CNC/PSNI/Police Scotland).
It would be desirable for candidates to be qualified as:
Firearms Tactical Advisor Lead Trainer
Operational Firearms Commander Lead Training
