We currently have opportunities within our Professional Standards Department (PSD). You will work as part of a dedicated team ensuring the integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct of the Ministry of Defence Police.
As a Detective Constable, you'll play a vital role in investigating complaints against police officers and staff, and matters arising from internal allegations — both criminal and non-criminal. Every investigation you conduct directly supports public trust and the professional reputation of the Force.

Key responsibilities
Investigate complaints against police and internal allegations, including criminal and non-criminal conduct matters
Record witness statements, collate exhibits, and conduct interviews of officers subject to investigation
Prepare case files for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service, Deputy Chief Constable, and the IOPC
Liaise with partner agencies including the CPS, IOPC, and other police forces
Advise senior officers on complaint and conduct matters under investigation
Attend case conferences, hearings, and proceedings as required
Ensure compliance with Data Protection Act requirements across all personal data processed
Plan and prioritise investigations across UK locations, often working within tight timescales
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Force policy, legislation, and regulatory requirements
Carry out administrative duties to ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance

£32,100 – £47,743 (subject to annual review and dependant on allowances).

Hours
40 hours
Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:00 (subject to alternative agreement).
Location
RAF Wyton, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire
An element of travel with periods working away from home and station will be required.
Training & Qualifications
Candidates must be qualified in the following capability:
Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) Level 2 or Initial Investigators Programme (IIP, Scotland)
Candidates must also be qualified (or be willing to become qualified) and undertake training in the following capabilities:
Sancus Investigation Trained
Achieving Best Evidence (ABE)
You will be asked to confirm existing skill set once you have applied and been confirmed to have met the baseline eligibility requirements.
Eligibility
This role is open to serving police officers, and officers who have left policing within the last 36 months, from a UK civilian police force. Read more about our eligibility requirements.
Terms
Whilst this role is firearms exempt, applicants must pass a pre-employment medical and Job-Related Fitness Standard before starting, with annual fitness testing, Personal Protection Safety Training, and MOD mandatory training required thereafter. Candidates must be a sole British National and British Passport holder and be willing to undergo security vetting clearance to Security Clearance/Developed Vetting (SC/DV) level. Applicants will also be subject to Police Vetting checks at Management level.

Assessment Day
An assessment day will be held at Ministry of Defence Police Headquarters at RAF Wyton.
This will encompass a competency/suitability interview and fitness test.
Date to be confirmed, but likely to be early June 2026.

Officers from our Professional Standards department will be hosting an online information session at 6pm on Thursday 25 June 2026 to provide further insight into the role and answer any questions you may have.
