We currently have opportunities to join our Investigations Team. You will work as part of our Intelligence, Crime and Operational Support (ICOS) department.

As a Detective Constable, you'll play a vital role in investigating serious and complex crimes that threaten UK Defence, from fraud and corruption to money laundering and organised crime linked to Defence community, capabilities and assets.

Every case you work directly supports the protection of national security. You'll use advanced investigative techniques, financial investigation powers, and close collaboration with partner agencies - including international partners - to disrupt criminal networks and bring offenders to justice.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify and plan investigative actions, considering resources, priorities, and proportionality to achieve investigative objectives

  • Assess and manage threat, harm, and risk, developing plans to keep yourself and others safe

  • Liaise with investigators, specialists, and supervisors to identify appropriate methods to gather material and develop lines of enquiry

  • Collect and gather material, intelligence, and evidence from a range of sources, maintaining continuity and integrity

  • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects, identifying additional lines of enquiry

  • Use relevant powers to identify and arrest suspects, considering the necessity test and voluntary interview options

  • Carry out analysis, assess evidence, and evaluate material to identify offenders

  • Prepare investigative outcome reports, build case files, and manage disclosure in line with best practice

  • Provide appropriate support for victims, completing risk assessments and formulating victim strategies where required

  • Work proactively in the 4P space — protect, pursue, prevent, prepare — using traditional and financial investigation tactics

£32,100 – £47,743 (subject to annual review and dependant on allowances).

Location

The ICOS team is predominantly based at MDP Headquarters, RAF Wyton, Huntingdon. Officers are also based at:

  • HMNB Clyde, Scotland

  • MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol

  • RAF Northolt, London

There is a requirement for regular nationwide travel, including overnight stays. Remote working may be available after an initial three-month period of mandatory office attendance.

Training & Qualifications  

Candidates must be qualified in the following capability:

  • Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) Level 2 or Initial Investigators Programme (IIP, Scotland)

For Financial Investigator posts, additional qualifications are required:

  • Financial Intelligence Officer

  • Financial Investigator

  • Financial Confiscator

  • Part 5 CRISP

Candidates must also be qualified (or be willing to become qualified) and undertake training in the following capabilities:

  • National Investigators Exam (or Police Scotland equivalent)

  • PNC (LEDS) User

  • National ANPS Service (NAS) Basic User

  • Charter Professional Applicant

  • JRFT (5.4), PPST, and First Aid

  • On-call provision

You will be asked to confirm existing skill set once you have applied and been confirmed to have met the baseline eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

This role is open to serving police officers, and officers who have left policing within the last 36 months, from a UK civilian police force. Read more about our eligibility requirements.

Terms

Whist this role is firearms exempt, applicants must pass a pre-employment medical and Job-Related Fitness Standard before starting with annual fitness testing (currently 5.4 on the multistage fitness test to level 5.4 -15m), Personal and Public Safety Training, and MOD mandatory training.
