As the Assistant Chief Constable (HQ & Crime) you will be a senior chief officer within the Ministry of Defence Police, providing strategic leadership across headquarters, specialist crime, intelligence, and operational support functions.
As a key member of the Chief Officer Group, you will help shape the Force's vision, culture, and long-term strategic priorities, ensuring governance, performance, and professional standards underpin effective delivery of the MDP's policing mission.
You will lead critical crime, intelligence, and specialist policing capabilities, set strategic direction for complex investigations, and drive major change programmes that improve efficiency and operational resilience. Externally, you will represent the MDP nationally and across Defence, influencing NPCC business, engaging with specialist security partners, and supporting integrated approaches to protective security and national resilience.
This role contributes directly to SJC GUARDIAN and will require engagement with strategic leadership at Standing Joint Command HQ in Aldershot and MOD Head Office in London.
As a national Force, there will be a requirement for work-related travel to MDP operational locations, predominantly in Scotland, Berkshire, Portsmouth, and Yorkshire.

Person Specification
We are looking for an exceptional leader who can demonstrate:
A strong track record of strategic leadership, including command of law enforcement officers at senior levels.
Extensive operational policing experience across a broad range of areas, including planning and commanding critical and serious incidents.
Understanding of relevant policies and Authorised Professional Practice, particularly in the area of Firearms.
Experience of leading and managing change across a large and complex policing organisation with competing priorities.
A proven ability to engage with and influence multi-agency stakeholders to develop Force initiatives and partnerships.
Eligibility
To apply for this role, you must meet the following criteria:
Be a serving police officer who are qualified to hold the rank of ACC/Commander or a more senior rank in a civilian UK Police Force, or have held such rank and left the police service no more than three years ago.
Have successfully completed the Senior Police National Assessment Centre and Strategic Command Course prior to taking up appointment.
Be a sole British National and hold a valid British Passport.
Hold a valid UK manual car driving licence
Satisfy all other recruitment eligibility criteria.
Pass a multistage fitness test (5.4, 15m Multistage Fitness Test) during recruitment and annually thereafter, in line with the National Role Profile, and complete a pre-employment medical prior to employment.
Undergo Police Vetting to Management level and be prepared to undertake National Security Vetting to Developed Vetting (STRAP) level.
Pass drug and alcohol testing upon recruitment and participate in the random drug and alcohol testing programme thereafter.
Pass the annual Personal and Public Safety Training (PPST) qualification.
