Detective Inspector – Crime Intelligence Manager

Job description

A challenging and rewarding position has become available to work at the heart of Intelligence Policing as an Intelligence Manager within the MDP Crime Intelligence team.

As Intelligence Manager, you'll provide leadership and direction to a team of intelligence staff, offering mentoring, coaching, guidance and support to maximise their development, efficiency and morale. You'll be responsible for managing both the Sensitive Intelligence Network Team and the Covert Authorities Bureau while building strategic relationships across MOD, wider government and industry partners.

You will develop and maintain intelligence processes, products and core functions to assist decision-making, identify and manage threat, risk and harm, while ensuring compliance with national standards and legislation. You will deliver and review collection plans and commission intelligence products to support effective policing operations. The role involves identifying, planning and deploying intelligence resources to ensure operational effectiveness across the department.

You will interpret policy to develop intelligence systems, procedures and practices, ensuring all intelligence products are informed by thorough consultation with stakeholders and partners. A key aspect of this position involves enabling collaboration with partner agencies to share intelligence and facilitate cross-sector working practices.

You must maintain awareness of innovations in intelligence techniques and tactics to ensure the department remains at the forefront of intelligence capabilities. You will review resourcing levels, select and recruit staff, and identify development needs and career advancement opportunities for your team members. The role requires you to work closely with Defence and intelligence partners, including Defence Intelligence and the Service Police, maintaining effective relationships throughout the intelligence community.

Experience in intelligence management is required.

Terms

The post holder is appointed to Crime Command with a three-year minimum term and 5-year maximum tenure. Minimum tour length is three years before level transfer (waivers possible via D/Superintendent Crime Command). This restriction doesn't apply to promotion opportunities. Performance and development review occurs at the 3-year mark.

Qualifications  

The post holder must be qualified (or be willing to become qualified) in the following capabilities:  

  • Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Intelligence Manager

  • National ANPS Service (NAS) Basic User

  • Police National Database (PND) User

  • PNC (LEDS) User

  • JRFT (5.4), PPST and First Aid

 Additional education and experience

Further to the core Intelligence Supervisor, the additional is required for the below intelligence posts:  

CT Intelligence DI (Role Specific):  

  • Overseeing and managing the MDP’s IPCO inspection processes.  

  • Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) Level 1 & Level 2 and/or IPP qualifications essential

Interview

Interviews will be held at MDP HQ, RAF Wyton - dates to be confirmed.  

This role will be assessed at CVF Level 2 for both application and interview stages.  

Medical and fitness tests for successful candidates will take place at locations and dates to be confirmed. Successful candidates will be expected to take up appointment as soon as is practicable.

Eligibility

All applicants must be fully competent in their current role/rank.

External applicants must have served in the rank of Detective Inspector or higher for a minimum of 12 months. 

Serving police officers and police officers who have recently left policing (within 36 months) are invited to apply  

Applicants should be able to evidence a credible and relevant policing record detailing their investigative experience.     

Applicants must be a sole British National and British Passport holder and willing to undergo security vetting clearance to Developed Vetting (DV) level with enhanced security checks. Applicants will also be subject to police vetting at Management Vetting (MV) level.   

Applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and the multistage fitness test to level 5.4 (15m test) in line with the National Role Profile fitness level applicable to the role/rank prior to employment.  

Applicants must hold a UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 live penalty points.
