Ready to investigating and disrupting serious and organised financial crime that threatens the integrity of the UK Defence?

Join our dedicated Economic Crime Team, where you'll play a pivotal role in uncovering complex fraud, corruption, money laundering, and financial exploitation linked to defence assets, personnel, and infrastructure.

As part of the Intelligence, Crime and Operational Support department, you'll apply the full spectrum of investigative powers, from traditional detective work to advanced digital forensics and POCA asset recovery.

Working across the 4P framework (Protect, Pursue, Prevent, Prepare), you'll proactively identify financial criminals while collaborating with partners including the National Crime Agency, HMRC, and Serious Fraud Office.

Whether your background is in Serious and Organised Crime or you're ready to specialise, you'll be an adaptable established detective who is equally comfortable analysing financial spreadsheets and deploying covert tactics. In this role, you will:

  • Lead complex investigations into fraud, corruption, money laundering, and financial exploitation targeting Defence

  • Deploy specialist digital evidence recovery and financial profiling techniques

  • Work with financial investigators to utilise POCA powers for asset recovery

  • Collaborate with Defence Intelligence, Military Police, and external agencies

  • Build court-ready cases and provide expert testimony

  • Contribute to strategic threat assessments that shape future operations

Due to Force’s national footprint, there will be a requirement for travel to meet operational requirements. There may be opportunities to work remotely - this will be subject to operational requirements.

Qualifications

The post holder must be qualified in the following capabilities:  

  • Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP) Level 2.

Terms

While this position is currently firearms exempt, it requires annual completion of the Job-Related Fitness Test and Personal Protection Safety Training along with MOD mandatory training. Please note that if you move into an Authorised Firearms Officer - Counter Terrorism (AFO-CT) role at any point during your employment with the MDP, whether or not you are initially employed in such a role, you will be required to undertake full firearms training.

This role will be assessed at MDP CVF Level 1 for both application and interview stages. 

Interviews

Interviews for those who pass the sift will be held at RAF Wyton, on dates to be confirmed.

Medical and fitness tests for successful candidates will take place at locations and dates to be confirmed. Successful candidates will be expected to take up appointment as soon as is practicable.

Eligibility

External applicants must have served in the rank of Detective Constable or higher for a minimum of 12 months. Serving police officers and police officers who have recently left policing (within 36 months) are invited to apply.

Applicants should be able to evidence a credible and relevant policing record.

Applicants must be a sole British National and British Passport holder and willing to undergo security vetting clearance to Security Clearance level with enhanced security checks. Applicants will also be subject to Police Vetting checks.

Applicants must hold a UK manual car driving licence with no more than 6 live penalty points. 

Applicants will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and the Job-Related Fitness Standard (Physical Employment Standard) prior to employment. Thereafter they will be subject to annual fit testing commensurate with the role they occupy as determined by the College of Policing National role profile (currently 5.4 on the multistage fitness test to level 5.4 -15m test for ICOS roles).
