Detective Constable – Counter Terrorism (CT) Intelligence Officer
Job description
An exceptional career opportunity awaits within the MDP Fixed Intelligence Management Unit (FIMU). Applications are invited from candidates who will work at the heart of Counter Terrorism Policing.
As an Intelligence Assessor within the FIMU, you will be responsible for receiving, assessing and evaluating intelligence. You'll use your ability to gather information/intelligence to inform decision making and take ownership of tasking and prioritising immediate actions based on threat and risk assessment. Your focus will be identifying and managing CT relevance - from extremist ideologies suitable for Prevent referrals to hostile reconnaissance at sensitive locations and the mishandling of Defence information that could compromise national security.
You will problem solve in conjunction with partners and act as a conduit for the two-way flow of overt, sensitive and secret information. This means you may manage intelligence for live operations across the United Kingdom and will contribute to the development of strategic and tactical intelligence assessments, target and problem profiles, and other National Intelligence Model products.
The role requires undertaking sensitive high-profile enquiries with limited supervision, demanding high standards of integrity and professionalism combined with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ideally, you will have Counter Terrorism experience with proven experience within an intelligence environment. However, applications are also encouraged from candidates with limited intelligence experience as full training will be provided.
Terms
The post holder is appointed to Crime Command with a three-year minimum term and 5-year maximum tenure. Minimum tour length is three years before level transfer (waivers possible via D/Superintendent Crime Command). This restriction doesn't apply to promotion opportunities. Performance and development review occurs at the 3-year mark.
While this position is currently firearms exempt, it requires annual completion of the Job-Related Fitness Test and Personal Protection Safety Training along with MOD mandatory training. Please note that if you move into an Authorised Firearms Officer - Counter Terrorism (AFO-CT) role at any point during your employment with the MDP, whether or not you are initially employed in such a role, you will be required to undertake full firearms training.
