Transferring Officers

Update - we are not currently recruiting 'New Entrants from Other Forces' (NEOFs) - please check back for further updates.

If you are a serving Constable in a Home Office or Scottish Constabulary and you have completed the Centrex based probationer training or equivalent, the MDP can provide new options for developing your career. You will not be required to complete another probationary period. However, you will be required to undertake a 5-week induction course and to take and pass the MDP firearms course.

You will be allowed to count your previous service for annual leave entitlement purposes and retain your previous service in respect of your salary scale.

You will not normally be required to complete a physical fitness test but you will be required to undergo a medical examination.

The MDP’s normal retirement age (NRA) for all grades is 65. The NRA is the earliest age at which you can be retired by the MOD. However, if your pension scheme has a retirement age of less than 65 you may choose to leave at any time between that age and age 65 with full, accrued pension benefits. If you would like to carry on working beyond the NRA you can apply for an extension of service and your application will be considered. The MDP also has the discretion to retain staff beyond their NRA (with their agreement) to meet business needs.
